Good Tea Bad Tea

With all this talk of Tea that has been going on and I just had to try out some more Matcha candy. Mmmmm Matcha candy right? No Wrong wrong wrong wrong!!!! (this is the bad part, we will get to the good part soon). Firstly I don't think it is Matcha, but instead some really wrong mutated form of powdered Jasmine tea. Now I love jasmine tea, as you will see soon but these candys are from jasmine tea hell! If there is one. YUCK. The only good thing about them was watching Casey's face contort after he tried them LOL! They are weird and really sweet and almost like jasmine perfume on the outside and like green tea and off peanuts on the outside. So please take my advice and if you ever see "Green tea crisp candy" be very very afraid and walk as quickly as you can in the opposite direction, and please under no circumstances put them in your mouth!

So after all this bad tea talk, we should move onto good tea. Jasmine Pearl Tea is very good tea! It is not at the cheap end of the spectrum, we paid $9.90 (AUD) for 100gms and I have seen it for about $13 USD on froogle. But it is really good. Tea leaf buds are picked and scented with jasmine flowers for up to 12 nights then they are hand rolled into the little balls you see in the above picture. The little balls make dosing the tea for your favourite strength very easy too! Once you add the hot water the balls unfurl till you have tea leaf buds in your cup! Very cute. The second cup of tea from the leaves is even better than the first too. So if you are a fan of Jasmine tea try to seek this tea out and give it a try... but you mightn't want to go back ;)

The Tea Roundup has begun at a la cuisine so go check out the 90+ dishes! (Thanks Clement)

*note* I have heard that the tea is really good for you too! (better than normal green tea)

Well - I have had jasmine tea shaped into a flower that opens up in your teapot, but never those small pearls. Got to try these now... And will make sure that I stay away from green tea candy:)

We call those jasmine tea pearls, jasmine roundies and they're high quality stuff so once you tasted it, the ordinary stuff will just not do anymore.

The green candy sounds yucks.

Hi Violet

Clare,

I love jasmin pearl tea, and yes they are expensive but so worth it! I pay about $20 for 113g. Your post came right after I had this discussion with a close friend of mine. I had given her some Jasmin pearl tea to drink after lunch, and today she was telling me how much she enjoyed it.

Kirk,

WOW $240/lb that better be some excellent tea, but I do have to agree that there are places up here that sell some excellent tea but you will be paying with your limbs. WOW *shakes head*

Good tea, bad tea, indeed. I will make sure to stay away from the Green Tea Crisp candy if I ever see it. LOL! I will, however, look for the Jasmine pearl tea. Thanks!

Actually Milly, I left my wooden leg there as collateral the last time! Only the Missus drinks it, I'm not allowed.....actually tastes very nice, but I'm not really one who can judge the difference.

Hi Clare, the story about the lollies is so funny! I will keep an eye out for them and run away if I happen to see them.

Where did you get the jasmine tea pearls from? I'd love to try them, but I'm a bit scared that I might not be able to go back to my trusty Dilmah green jasmine tea bags! :)

Hi Clare,
the pearls sound very nice! Ive got jasmine on the brain lately with all this tea talk. Sorry about the candies but I guess it was worth it to see Casey's face as he ate them, right? :)

hi clare - I'm going to be the contrarian here! When I was in Hangzhou (China) last year, I bought some green tea candy (that looks suspiciously like yours) and I actually did quite like it, crunchy peppermint flavoured sugar coating with green tea powder, sugar and ground peanuts filling...?? The peanuts and green tea powder were not 'off' at all, maybe cos' I bought it at the tea plantation itself or maybe my tastebuds veer towards the commonplace??

Hi Michele
it was sooooo worth it

Hi Eatzy Cath
you could be right
If the peanuts weren't off it would have been MUCH nicer!

Kirk,

*nod* yup I can see it. I can tell the difference between so-so and really good tea, when it comes to really good tea for $20 vs. $125 well it is alittle bit harder for me, not to mention the debate whether I want to lose and arm or two. LOL :D Yeah I am usually the only one that drinks the pearls DH likes it from time to time but I am the biggest drinker of tea in the house.

Clare,

*nod* I love the Pearls so much so it is hard to go back to other Jasmine teas. Not to mention that I like to try to get other people to join me in loving it. Resistance is futile, you will love pearl tea! LOL

Hey, no one has to twist my arm on this one. I've loved JDP for years since I first tried it at "Peet's" when I worked there. Mills gave me a tin for my birthday and I broke it open for a tasting FINALLY today! Oh but it was SO heavenly!!!
