Nic Rocks! And a recipe contest!

Well I don't know about you, but I think that the above photo shows why Nic Rocks. So why was I so incredibly lucky? Well I am still not sure :) . But everyone who is participating in Nic's blogging by mail event is getting a similar package. But mine is even more special, I had seen what Mcauliflower and AG had received, but when I opened my packet there was a huge bag of Butterscotch Morsels! As soon as I saw them I said WOW she remembered! Well, Nic had made some awesome looking Butterscotch and chocolate chunk blondies! and I had lamented that Butterscotch chips are not avalible in Australia (why Nestle why???). Nic described this in her lovely letter so I know I am not making this up. Well I not only received a package of butterscotch but also the Blondies! Am I a lucky girl or what?. In the photo can you see the empty space? That is because I HAD to try one before I even thought of taking a photo ;).

I also received a packet of JB's which are like what smarties should be! You know who everyone thinks that the different colours taste different? Well these guys really do! and there are 20 flavours and I received 40 JB's in my box. I only missed out on 3 flavours, the cappucino, strawberry cheesecake and the orange. I think my favourite was a tie between the rasberry and the honey graham craker. What's your favourite???

Well Since I only have 1 packet of Butterscotch Morsels I want to make sure I put them to the best use possible. I have tried Nics yummy blondies, so I want to know what is your favourite way to use them?

Please send me an email (eatstuff at gmail dot com) or leave a comment with your favourite recipe and I will make and blog about my pick (maybe a poll???) who knows you might get a prize if I get around to it.

Anyway, I wanted to say THANKS SO MUCH! NIC YOU ROCK!

No Amy not one but 2! I have still got one to come from my secret blogging by mail buddy!

YAY! maybe you can win a prize from me! how cool would that be?
I am sooo excited, I cant wait to wake up and read the recipe, it is going to be sooo hard waiting to use the morsels, I think I am going to have to hide the packet so I dont start nibbling... that would be terrible!

Noo I cant open it! I wouldn't be able to stop... slowly but surely I would eat it away.... I already gave it murderous looks ....

Yeah, 2 packages!!!!! that is partly why she rocks! this was just the thansks for participating package!

Maybe we should have our own swap so you dont feel so jealous in alittle bit?

I think that I should be able to make 2 recipes from an 11 ounce packet?

hmmm... ::attempting to think:: weellll, Butterscotch morsels huh? Well, I'm pretty crazy about the blondies myself. No wonder you had to eat a bit before releasing the artist... There is a thing called "Magic Cookie Bars" where you layer graham cracker crumbs, chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, chopped nuts, coconut, then pour condensed milk over the whole. Bake, then serve... If that sounds entertaining, I'll see if I can't come up with the proper recipe!

Wow, I don't think I have tasted butterscotch morsels but they sound wonderful. Can't wait to see what you are going to make out of it.

I have a few butterscotch recipes from my Baking by Flavor cookbook that look great but I have not tried. Will send you those so you have an even bigger list to choose from.

Hey Clare. Thank so much! I feel like a celebrity or something! I'm glad that you liked everything and I hope you have fun experimenting with the butterscotch chips. They're one of those things (unlike chocolate chips) that I don't love munching on alone but LOVE in cookies and things.

Double Dip Commen-taters huh? =oP hehehe Oh well. I've got to find an "official" recipe for you on that. I think they were called "Magic Bars"... hang on here... http://www.christmas-cookies.com/recipes/recipe.php?recid=186

I couldn't BELIEVE how many hits I got googling "magic bars" WHOA! If you don't like the looks of this one, the first site had dozens of different variations with anywhere from 5 to 8 ingredients. I would have sent that link but it took to long to load and if it takes to long, and I've got options, I'm OUTTA here! oh yea, I'm a BaaaaaD girl, but then, I've got tomatoes to can and a floor to mop! ::wink:: Catch ya!

Hi Clare,
Great goodie package! How bizarre that you can't get butterscotch chips in Australia. And of course that probably makes you crave them all the more!

Oh, I grew up on Magic Cookie Bars, but we didn't put butterscotch chips in them--just chocolate. They are soooo easy to make--you just layer everything right in the baking pan. Oh, the childhood memories are flooding back now.

About 15 years ago a pal and I used to set up a stall and sell old-fashioned baked goods at a big evening farmer's market in California. One of the things we made was Magic Bars (we shortened the name) and I swear, every person who bought one would get all wide-eyed and say: Oh! Magic Bars! I haven't had one of these in years! I love them! It was great.

Hi Farmgrl

Well actually you dont crave them if you dont even know they exist! That is one of the worst/best things about this.. finding out about all the great food stuffs that you can't get!

I can't belevie I have never heard of Magic bars before... crazy! I will have to make (hopefully my crazy psycho oven is getting fixed *clare whoops for joy!*

Okay, I have a question before I send you a tempting way to use your butterscotch morsels (I think you're going to need about 10 more packages!)--can you get "toffee bits" down there? They're packaged like chocolate chips and are little pieces of crunchy toffee. Two brands I know of are Heath and Skor. You would need the ones NOT covered in chocolate. I have a really easy, really yummy recipe that calls for butterscotch morsels AND the toffee bits.

I dont think so, we dont have peanut butter chips either.

Maybe there is something else I could use instead I will have a look.

I am STILL trying to get my mom's cookie recipe, but it looks like you have plenty of recipes and will run out of chips before I get to you! That's okay--if we have our own food swap, I will send you some more just so you can try the recipe. :)
